Proper restaurant web design is vital for attracting new customers as well as repeat customers.
The best example of this is South of Temperance, a restaurant based in Toronto. South of Temperance approached marketing expert Paul Cookson and our team because they wanted a site that was easy to navigate, engaging to web visitors, showcased their restaurant’s atmosphere, and highlighted their food.
South of Temperance is a restaurant that specializes in updated classic dishes with global accents. The restaurant focused on using organic locally sourced ingredients and hormone-free meat products. They wanted to showcase their down to earth yet uplifted style of food while also bringing attention to events they would be hosting. That’s why we ended up going with a restaurant web design that was approachable but clearly distinguishable.
To start the restaurant web design process, we created a homepage that invited clicks. Visitors would clearly see an image of a signature dish which would lead to the menu when clicked on. On the side, they would also be able to learn more about what the restaurant is about, find what events were being hosted, and even get information on the chef. The goal was to create a clean navigation and layout which we succeeded on.
Once visitors clicked through the menu, they would be presented with regular text in a menu laid out in the classic restaurant menu. We didn’t want any confusion by adding an image heavy page or a PDF file that visitors would have to download, which is common in many restaurant web designs. Instead, each menu item described the dish and was organized.
To give more credibility to the restaurant, we created a media page. Visitors could see the publications where South of Temperance was mentioned. They could also read the restaurant’s reviews and testimonials from previous patrons. This would entice people who have heard about the restaurant to take the leap and come in for the food.
Marketing expert Paul Cookson also decided to include a photo gallery and videos to the site. He made the decision because the restaurant stated they wanted to run events (example Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, Stanley Cup). We thought the restaurant had an amazing atmosphere and a lot of space, so it was important that visitors saw this on the site.
To make everything as transparent as possible, marketing expert Paul Cookson and the rest of the team decided to add a contact us page that provided all the information visitors would need. The contact us page highlighted a photo of the staff, had a clear address, phone/email information, listed the hours of operation, and included a Google map plugin to pinpoint the location of the restaurant.
The final result was a website that highlighted all the important aspects of South of Temperance – the food, the atmosphere, the events, and the chef. The website design provides a clear linear path so that web visitors can learn more about the restaurant. It was also filled with many elements that would convince visitors to host their party there, come in to try the food, and attend the upcoming events.
